Phae Project Dev Log 15: Hitting a bit of a slump
Dev Log 15
Well… There is not much say because I haven’t done much.
Here is the breakdown of this week:
Tuesday: 0h
Wednesday : 0h
Thursday : 0h
Friday : 0h
Saturday : 2h
I am really busy working on the side project but I still wanted to at least do something for the phae project to make sure I don’t leave it on pause for to long.
I don’t have enough strength to start coding the enemy behavior (knockbar etc…), so I decided to work more on the game ideas. I previously revealed that the side project is also relevant to the phae project. So i thought I think it is a good idea to brainstorm on that aspect of the game.
Instead of doing roundabouts, I will go straight to it. The side project is a rhythm based game. And I want all my crafting mini-games to be rhythm based. I am thinking for the crafting jobs there will be: Tailer: to make clothes and accessories Blacksmith: to make weapons (sword, spear, etc…) and armor Cook: to make food Alchemist: to make potions and magic accessories Carpenter: to make weapons (staff, crossbow, etc…)
The point is for all of them to be rhythm based mini-games where your score affects whether you achieve the crafting, craft more items then normal or even have a upgraded version of the item. This will be all very similar to “Fantasy Life” which is a game I really enjoyed.
Now even though they will all be rhythm based I want all of them to feel different and unique both visually and conceptually. They would each have their own type of music and the actions that will be performed in rhythm will be different.
The good thing about this approach is that in the back the framework will be the same for each, but to the player it will feel different and interesting (hopefully). I will start working on the framework very soon for the side project which I will transfer the the phae project once it is polished.
Thinking about it the gathering and crafting will be very dependant on the inventory system that I am making (which will probably take a year to finish) and the rhythm framework I will be starting now. Apart from that all that I want for my game is a good combat system. Once these systems are in place I think I could consider myself in the alpha stage of the game and I will start working on the content and polish of the game. So… technically I will probably be in pre-alpha for at least another year. There are so many things I want to make but I need to take one step at a time.

- Did some brainstorming on crafting mini/games
….Well I really did not get much done this week. But it will be like this until I finish the other project. Although, Hopefully I’ll be able to put more than 2h next time. I have planned that I will complete most of the other project by mid May so the phae project should pick up more steam at that point.
Until next week!
